#GivingTuesdayNow is a new global day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19.
We believe that generosity has the power to unite and heal communities in good times and bad. A global threat like COVID-19 touches every person on the planet, and it presents an opportunity to come together as a global community.
#GivingTuesdayNow provides an opportunity to demonstrate generosity, citizen engagement, action from business and philanthropy, and support for communities and nonprofits around the world.
Please consider supporting St. Francis House on #GivingTuesdayNow on Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Simply click the Donate button below to make an online gift. We ask that you include #GivingTuesdayNow in the description line. Thank you for your support.
The impact of COVID-19 has been felt at every nonprofit agency in Sioux Falls, including the St. Francis House. Many of our guests have lost their jobs while others have encountered a reduction of hours during this pandemic. In addition, several of our beds have been unoccupied as a result of this time of isolation. We have had to adapt the process in which we receive new guests, receiving guests in increments in order to not spread the virus.
As a housing agency, we remain open 24 hours a day. Staff members continue to provide care for our guests. With the loss of approximately 800 volunteer hours per month, that has meant some staff members have had to work overtime to help meet staffing needs. Those needs include transporting guests to work and organizing activities for guests to help them pass the time.
Your gift to #GivingTuesdayNow will help St. Francis House with its operational costs so we can continue to meet the needs of our guests.
Agencies across Sioux Falls have been hit hard by the loss of volunteers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the volunteers that come to St. Francis House help prepare and serve meals for our guests. Without these volunteers our guests have stepped up in a big way to fill these roles, not only at St. Francis House, but also in the community. Guests volunteer at The Banquet 2 to 3 times per week to help prepare meals for the hundreds of guests who come for the evening meal.
The ability of our guests to volunteer is a great way to keep them busy and engaged in a positive way. It also keeps them focused on other things besides the circumstances surrounding the pandemic. In addition, giving back to the community that is helping them is a wonderful gift of hope.
By making a contribution to #GivingTuesdayNow you will be providing a gift of hope to our guests during a time when hope might seem lost.
Keeping Our Community Strong is a project to help small businesses stay open by making meals for the feeding ministries in Sioux Falls. Call to Freedom, The Banquet, Bishop Dudley Hospitality House and the St. Francis House will be able to feed the people they serve due to this amazing gift. The generosity of an anonymous donor has made this happen.
Anyone wishing to donate to the Keeping our Community Strong project to continue this effort of keeping people working and fed may do so by making an online gift through the St. Francis House web site. Simply click the Donate button below. Donors are asked to put "Keeping our Community Strong" in the description box.
