GivingTuesday - December 1, 2020

GivingTuesday_HeartGlobe-01.png#GivingTuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past eight years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give. GivingTuesday strives to build a world in which the catalytic power of generosity is at the heart of the society we build together, unlocking dignity, opportunity and equity around the globe.

COVID-19 Impact at St. Francis House

The impact of COVID-19 has been felt at every nonprofit agency in Sioux Falls, including the St. Francis House. Many of our guests have lost their jobs while others have encountered a reduction of hours during this pandemic. In addition, several of our beds have been unoccupied as a result of this time of isolation. We have had to adapt the process in which we receive new guests, receiving guests in increments in order to not spread the virus.

As a housing agency, we remain open 24 hours a day. Staff members continue to provide care for our guests. With the loss of approximately 800 volunteer hours per month, that has meant some staff members have had to work overtime to help meet staffing needs. Those needs include transporting guests to work and organizing activities for guests to help them pass the time.

Your gift to #GivingTuesday will help St. Francis House with its operational costs so we can continue to meet the needs of our guests.

We're In This Together - Giving Back to the Community

Food Boxes.jpgThe COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the homeless population in our community. Guests who test positive aren't able to stay at certain agencies during their battle because the agencies are unable to safely isolate their guests. These guests are placed in accommodations where they are safely quarantined during their recovery.

St. Francis House understands the importance of giving back to the community and share its resources with those in need. During this time, St. Francis House makes food boxes and delivers them to the quarantined individuals so they can maintain their physical strength.

By making a contribution to #GivingTuesday you will be providing a gift of hope to those in our community during a time when hope might seem lost.

Keep KELOLand Warm

Keep KELOLand Warm - 01.jpgSt. Francis House will serve as the primary collection and storage site for this year's Keep KELOLand Warm event. In addition, the St. Francis House will assist with the sorting and distribution of coats and other winter clothing items, such as hats and gloves. As items are donated, St. Francis House will collaborate with other local agencies to distribute these items to those in the commuinty who are in need. The program runs through February.

Your gift to #GivingTuesday will allow St. Francis House to continue to share its resources with other agencies in our community as we together provide a hand up to those who are in need.
